My Son
My baby came to me one day
from a world so cold and dry,
'No one wants me, did you know
will you too pass me by?
I want you, yes, my little soul
with eyes so large and sad,
to wipe away that haunted look
and make your heart feel glad.
but then my life was filled with gloom
dark, alone, and weary
So how can I give you, my little love
a world that's warm and cheery?
You wept and looked from those sad eyes
and saw yourself alone
while I in distant spheres of pain
felt how far away we've grown.
I walked that path a long, long time
away from you my love,
and didn't hear the yearning calls
to nestle like a dove.
To clear those eyes is now life's aim
to share your need to BE,
and help you wipe out those three words -
No one wants me.

I came from the shade of my misunderstandings and flowed to the sunlight of my own being.

My Child (Dedicated to Brian)
A gift was given to me one day
so fragile, yet so strong
do unto it, and help it grow
was the message of its song.
I looked with awe, so soft and small
yet full of life and inner vim,
with trust it clasped the hand
and yearns for help to thrive.
It's path already marked, its thrust a forceful drive,
A gift, say I, to love and guide
the wonder of this child.

Eyes
What's behind those big brown eyes
this quiet child he has
a world full of unknown dreams
or hurts that make him sad.
They glow with light
are tears welled there?
Or joys too great to feel,
is what you see another world,
or what we all call real.
What's behind those big brown eyes
perhaps we'll know one day,
all the secrets you now hide deep
or watch them slip away.

What Of......
What are the doors we hide behind
our sprit should be free,
old fears we have, and those we grow
distort the world we see.
What of the faith in all mankind
our will to do our best,
what of the pride of each young child
discovering life with zest.
What of the old who in their eyes
know truths we can't perceive
what of the ancient laws of earth
we fight to each achieve.
So fragile is our quest it seems
we stumble past the core,
of making real our inner dreams
for yet, we still want more.

Threads
Threads of life are streached so thin
they reach beyond this world,
but wrap is in a vital web
inside, where lives begin.
Dewdrops quiver, each idea
can grow to be so real,
and throw out sparks, ignite mankind
Enrichening all we feel.

An Idea
I feel it creeping from the webs
of all my hidden dreams,
shadowed by my common sense
and all my daily schemes.
It cannot flourish, it must fail
go back from whence you came,
eruption to reality
will only bring me shame.
For we were taught to fear
this winsome, fragile, vital thing
we all call 'An Idea".

The Children's Call
Mommy dear why can't you hear
words speaking in my head,
they tell me all I need to know
from birth until I'm dead.
You guide my ways so I can live
the same those around,
but what about my own life's choice
the truths alone I've found?
Explain to me each lie you tell
of what we all must do,
rationalize the reasons why
your own words don't ring true.
I know you only teach of what
yourself had meant to do,
and so you think my life can be
a second chance for you.
But Mommy dear, why can't you hear
my own desires and see,
to set me free and watch me grow
and just let me be me.

Don't Kill the World
The child he sat amid refuse
his eyes were rimmed with tears,
scanning heaps of cans and waste
stacked up through many years.
Beside the waters edge he waked
tears flowing now like oil,
that smothered all the flailing birds
their flight its slick did foil.
Out at the barren hills he stared
where fires and mines had been,
homeless creatures now long gone
by children no more seen.
Effigies of concrete stretched
up high to blot the sky,
yet crushed down on humanity
their spirits slowly die.
His shoulders hunched, he sat and sobbed
for every child to come,
Oh grownups please, don't kill our world
or one day there'll be none.

What Can ONE do?
How can one that stands alone
affect the world we know,
and change the patterns laid before
other ways to show.
With every thought propelled outward
like pebble in a pond,
becoming rings that grow, expand
gaining strength, a bond.
With passing time that tiny seed
a thought, within one mind,
can spread, take root, and change the ways
we treat and view mankind.

My Children....
Oh my children, your mother cries
but not fear, or guilt, or lies,
only for the waste been done
those years without you my girl, my son.
For I had in me what I was
the real power, my own cause,
from which your tender yearning minds
could draw your truths and learn to find
that which you alone could be
to soar to greatness, to be free.
Bitter hurts and seeking love
I walked a path, eyes mostly shut,
so gave of me in measured gram
only a portion of what I really am.
Now as I grow, so will you too
like branches of my tree,
enriched by my new strengthened base
and return that gift to me.
This give and take, fertility's seed
enfoldments grow to bound
wrapping us in mutual births
our own new oneness found.
If as a mother this I do
my only chore you see,
we'll grow, expand and share the joy
what each is meant to be.

Chains
My soul was trapped I fear to say
and set by me most every day,
in case I rose above the mass
and followed my own path at last.
You see, my life was filled with those
professed to be beloved by me,
and for this cause I cained myself
so I thought, and then believed.
But it is I that set the trap
and carefully chartered that life's map,
Now only I can change the course
enrich my focus with new force.
With one step forward, perhaps one back,
faith in what can be,
and not in what I lack
I'll break the chains, and just be me.
